Compatibility of It's A Hit! Versions

As It's A Hit! went through the beta test process there were several changes made to the format of the database that holds the game files on the Palm Device and the format of the files on your desktop machine.  Some older versions of It's A Hit! are incompatible with Release 1.0.1.

The most important changes in It's A Hit! occurred at Version Beta9 (1.0b9) and Version Beta17 (1.0b17).

If you have games that you have scored with a version of It's A Hit! at or before 1.0b9, your games are incompatible with the current version of It's A Hit! and cannot be viewed with the Desktop application or modified with the It's A Hit! Palm Application Version 1.0.1.  Your games will continue to work with your older version of the Palm application and are automatically backed up to the file "BaseballGames.pdb" in your backup directory.  We recommend that when you upgrade to Version 1.0.1 that you Hot Sync with your older version of the application still installed, then save the file BaseballGames.pdb to some form of removable media for archive purposes.  Then you should remove the old version of It's A Hit! and all your old games from your Palm Device before installing the Release 1.0.1 version of the It's A Hit! Palm application.

In the Beta17 version of It's A Hit! the basic storage mechanism for the files Current.gms and Archive.gms was changed because of a bug discovered in the Palm Table library.  When upgrading from a version before Beta17 where you currently have Current.gms or Archive.gms files, you can upgrade by loading all the games into your Palm device before changing the Palm application.  Next copy your Current.gms and Archive.gms files to some form of removable media for archive purposes.  Then remove your Current.gms and Archive.gms file, install the Release 1.0.1 version of the It's A Hit! Palm Application and Hot Sync (using the Release 1.0.1  It's A Hit! Conduit).  When you Hot Sync, the Conduit will create new Current.gms and Archive.gms files that use the current table storage mechanism.  The games in your Palm Device will work with the Release 1.0.1 version of the Palm application and will now be stored in the current format on your desktop machine.
